The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) has announced the dates for its 22nd Biennial Delegates Congress, set to take place from June 28 to June 30, 2024.

This announcement was made by party leader Aubrey Norton during a press conference earlier today. Samuel Gillis reports.

During a recent meeting of the Central Executive Committee, the decision to host the congress over three days was confirmed.

Incumbent Leader Aubrey Norton, who will be contesting for the leadership again, expressed confidence in his qualifications to lead the party, particularly as they approach the 2025 General Elections.

When questioned about the potential changes in the party’s leadership if his opponent, Roysdale Forde, is not successful, Norton noted that Forde had participated in the last election but did not secure a position on the executive.

Norton, exercising his option as party leader, co-opted Forde as a member of the central executive.

The final decision on Forde’s role will depend on the election’s outcome.

“It depends on how you lose and what is the party’s perception,” Norton explained. “I am not operating here as Aubrey Norton; I am operating as leader of the party. If the party wants him, then I am open; if they don’t, I am still open. I might even fight for him, you never know.”

Forde, in announcing his candidacy for leadership, emphasized the need for a new vision for the PNCR, promising to regroup, refocus, and rebuild the party if elected leader.

The congress will feature in-person representatives from all ten administrative regions, emphasizing the party’s commitment to inclusivity.

The theme for the event is “Forming the Next Government: Building a Just, Inclusive, and Prosperous Society for All.”
