During the Guyana Energy Conference, Prime Minister Brigadier Mark Phillips highlighted the benefits of the Gas to Energy (GTE) project, emphasizing its role in reducing electricity costs, enhancing energy security, and fostering clean energy development in Guyana.
Prime Minister Phillips, who is currently performing the duties of the President, outlined the significance of the GTE project in reducing the country’s fuel import bill and lowering the cost of electricity.
He indicated that the savings generated from this project will be reinvested to accelerate the development of other clean energy initiatives, including renewables such as solar, wind, biomass, and hybrid technologies.
Asserting Guyana’s commitment to achieving net zero goals and safeguarding the environment, PM Phillips underscored the importance of collective action by international partners and the private sector.
He emphasized the need for innovation and greater utilization of cleaner fuels and renewables to address climate resilience and bolster energy security.
The Prime Minister urged international investors to explore opportunities for investment, partnership, and networking in Guyana, emphasizing the country’s existing infrastructure for solar energy and plans for the development of projects like the Amaila Falls hydropower project.
The Energy Conference serves as a platform for mobilizing action and raising awareness on the universal transition to clean energy, positioning Guyana as a catalyst for sustainable development.
