Guyana is working to improve its electricity supply by investing in different energy sources such as solar, natural gas, hydro and supporting facilities.
So says Prime Minister Mark Phillips in his message to mark CARICOM Energy Month 2026.

He says the Government is therefore following its Low Carbon Development Strategy 2030 to expand energy production, improve access to electricity and reduce reliance on any singlesource.
“Natural gas plays a strategic transitional role in replacing fossil fuels in the electricity generation supporting lower cost and grater energy security. Renewable energy and battery security are being expanded alongside these investments,” he said.
The Government is also working to reduce electricity waste, develop facilities to support electric vehicles, and train people with the skills needed to work in the growing energy sector.
“Through the Caribbean Efficiency and Green energy buildings projects and other initiatives Guyana is advancing energy audits, technical training and investment opportunity for more efficient public buildings. Government is also advancing the electric mobility sector through charging infrastructure, technical and safety requirements and training in vehicle maintenance and emerging technologies,” he said.
Over the last five years the government has invested approximately 37.7 billion dollars in renewable energy inclusive of utility-scale solar farms, community mini-grids, hydropower facilities and solar energy systems.
CARICOM Energy Month 2026 is being observed under the theme, “Harnessing Energy, Advancing Resilient Development.”
