The three-day State visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has concluded, leaving behind a series of agreements and initiatives that are expected to have lasting impacts on Guyana and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

In a media briefing, members of the Indian delegation and the Indian High Commission outlined the successes of the visit and the specific commitments made.

Jaideep Mazumbar, a member of India’s Foreign Service, highlighted India’s interest in collaborating with Guyana in various sectors, particularly sugar production and millet yield.

Furthermore, India has shown keen interest in the country’s oil and gas sector, especially in exploration and production phases.

Mazumbar also shared India’s plans to assist CARICOM nations by offering online learning platforms and 1000 ITEC (Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation) scholarships to CARICOM member states over the next five years.

Additionally, India will provide its digital public infrastructure, including cloud-based digilockers and Unified Payment Interfaces, to enhance public services delivery in the region.

As part of Prime Minister Modi’s seven-pillar approach to strengthen ties with CARICOM, India will also train young female cricketers from each CARICOM member state and provide maritime domain mapping, hydrography, and maritime security services in the Caribbean.

The Prime Minister’s visit has set the stage for deeper collaboration between India and Guyana, along with broader support for CARICOM, promising a future of shared development and growth.
