Prime Minister Narendra Modi was officially conferred with the Order of Excellence, Guyana’s highest national award, during a special dinner hosted by President Irfaan Ali at State House on November 20, 2024.
The award was given to Prime Minister Modi in recognition of his exemplary leadership and his strong advocacy for the developing world on the global stage.
In his remarks, President Ali highlighted Modi’s contributions to strengthening the relationship between India and Guyana, emphasizing his leadership in fostering solidarity and partnership.
He noted the tangible support that Guyana has received from India in various sectors, which has had a significant impact on the country’s development.
Prime Minister Modi graciously accepted the honor and acknowledged the leadership of President Ali, noting that their growing partnership reflects the historical ties between both nations.
He expressed deep gratitude to President Ali and the people of Guyana for their continued collaboration.
The event also underscored the long-standing cooperation between the two countries, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when India provided critical support to the Caribbean region.
India donated 500,000 vaccines to the region, including 80,000 doses to Guyana, which played a pivotal role in safeguarding public health.
Over the years, Guyana has benefitted from various forms of assistance from India, including concessional loans, grants, military exchanges, scholarships, and agricultural support.
The Order of Excellence serves as a recognition of Prime Minister Modi’s role in fostering this strong bilateral relationship and his commitment to the development of both nations.
