Prime Minister Mark Phillips says Guyana’s partnership with the European Union is central to advancing cooperation in climate action, trade, health, governance, renewable energy and digital infrastructure.

He made these remarks at the Europe Day reception hosted last evening at Herdmanston Lodge, Georgetown.

“The partnership between Guyana and the European Union is strong because it is essential.Together, we can shape a future that delivers opportunity, stability and prosperity for peoples of the Caribbean and of Europe,” he said.

The acting head of state also extended congratulations to the European Union for its ongoing efforts in promoting unity, resilience and prosperity and reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment to being an active partner in global climate solutions.

Meanwhile, Ambassador to the European Union to Guyana Luca Pierantoni emphasised that the EU’s presence in Guyana predates the country’s oil boom and reaffirmed its long-term commitment to collaboration.

“There is enormous, largely unused potential for cooperation between us, potential that we must now strive to fully explore and realise,” he said.

The European diplomat says Guyana will soon experience an expanded EU role not only in diplomatic and economic spheres but also through deeper engagement in scientific, academic and cultural cooperation.

Europe Day is celebrated on the 9th of May marking the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration in 1950, which laid the foundation for a new form of political cooperation in Europe.
