Construction on the new Wismar-Mackenzie Bridge has entered Phase Two, with significant progress made on the preparatory work.
The civil engineering team, led by Pavel Magin of China Railway Construction Caribbean (CRCC), has completed the access road to divert traffic, which will help ensure smoother movement around the construction zone.
The focus is now on building a temporary trestle bridge, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
This trestle bridge is crucial for providing access to the site and facilitating the construction of the permanent bridge.
Once completed, the team will shift to the next phase, which includes foundation work and piling for the new bridge.
Magin confirmed that the project is on track to meet its scheduled completion date of April 2026.
Following the foundation and piling stages, workers will proceed with the installation of girders and prepare a yard for casting the segments needed for the bridge.
The Wismar-Mackenzie Bridge project is a significant infrastructure development aimed at improving connectivity between the two banks of the Demerara River.
