By Delicia Janneire, NCN News – December 31, 2024

Phase One of the East Coast to East Bank Demerara Road Link project, which connects Ogle to Haags Bosch, Eccles, is now over 92% complete.

This was confirmed by Ashoka Buildcon Limited, the contractor handling the project, during a site visit by the Ministry of Public Works earlier today.

The two-year project, which is scheduled for completion by January 24, 2025, is being developed into a four-lane highway.

Project Engineer from the Ministry of Public Works, Nigel Erskine, provided an update on the progress made thus far.

The contractor has already constructed eight minor bridges and one major bridge.

Approximately 90% of the earthworks, sub-base works, and base works have been completed.

Additionally, about 20% of the asphaltic concrete paving has been finished, with 3.7 kilometers of road from Eccles to Ogle already paved.

The total cost of the project stands at 106.4 million US dollars, and contractor Ramachandar Rao of Ashoka Buildcon Ltd stated that all required materials for the finishing stages are in place, with only final works remaining.

Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, who was present for the inspection, commended the contractor’s dedication, particularly their efforts during the holiday season.

Minister Edghill also took the opportunity to inspect the East Coast Road Widening Project at Cummings Lodge.

The road link project is expected to greatly improve transportation between the East Coast and East Bank Demerara, enhancing accessibility and connectivity in the region.
