Performing Arts Sector Sees Remarkable Growth in 2024, Says Minister Ramson

Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Charles Ramson Jnr, highlighted significant achievements in Guyana’s performing arts sector during a Year in Review press conference.

The Minister noted that 2024 marked a record number of events, with the Ministry hosting 60 events—26 of them held outside of Region 4.

One of the most notable highlights was the launch of the first-ever Dancehall Monarch competition and the Literary Arts Festival, which provided valuable platforms for both emerging and established artists.

These events allowed performers to showcase their talents, opening doors for more opportunities in the sector.

Minister Ramson emphasized the importance of regional engagement, citing that the Ministry held significant events in various regions, including a tribute to the late Dave Martin in Region 10.

He expressed that the number of engagements in the performing arts sector surpassed 360, marking a milestone for the industry’s growth.

National Coordinator Andrew Tyndall also highlighted the government’s continued investment in the entertainment sector.

He pointed out that in addition to festivals and conferences, events like the return of Guy Expo and regional expos in Regions 6 and 2 have provided earning opportunities for those involved in the performing arts and entertainment sectors.

With ongoing investments and a focus on regional outreach, the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports is committed to fostering more opportunities for the performing arts community in the years to come.
