Pensioners Begin Receiving $100,000 Grant Nationwide

By Tracey Liverpool, NCN News – December 30, 2024

The government has officially begun distributing a one-time $100,000 cash grant to National Insurance Scheme (NIS) pensioners, a move aimed at providing financial relief to vulnerable groups, especially pensioners.

This initiative was announced by President Dr. Irfaan Ali in October and is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to put disposable income in the hands of citizens.

At NIS offices across the country, including the Linden Local Office in Mackenzie, scores of pensioners gathered to collect their cheques.

Many expressed their gratitude for the grant, which they plan to use for various purposes such as home repairs, business improvements, and family celebrations.

James Sinclair, one pensioner, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I feel real thankful… I have plans to use the money to help with my business.”

Another pensioner, George Williams, who is planning a small celebration for his 83rd birthday, shared, “I’m much thankful to the government… I’ll keep a little feast for the children.”

Pensioners have until Friday, January 3, 2025, to collect their grants at NIS offices.

Those unable to collect by this date will have alternative arrangements made for the disbursement of their funds in their respective communities.

Additionally, unregistered pensioners will have another opportunity to sign up in January 2025.
