The distribution of pension books is continuing across the country and will run until February 5 at all designated locations.
This update was shared by Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud.
Minister Persaud is encouraging pensioners who are physically able to do so to make use of the banking system or the MMG platforms to receive their pension faster and avoid long lines at distribution centers.
She says the Ministry will be launching a countrywide educational campaign to help pensioners understand how to use these electronic payment platforms.
“We will be teaming up with the various agencies to encourage more use, because one it is safer for you, and two you don’t have to go around and get a pension book it is deposited in your account every month, you can take out all the money, you can take out some of it and you can do that anytime you want,” she said.
The Minister is also reminding pensioners that pension booklets cannot be encashed before the designated date.
“If you’re in the Month of January you can cash the coupon for January, but you can’t cash for February, March, April…you can’t do that,” she underscored.
Additionally, Minister Persaud is urging pensioners experiencing any difficulties with receiving their pension payments or booklets to contact the Ministry of Human Services at 223-6027 or 227-4410 for assistance.
