The father of a 47-year-old woman who was struck and killed by a motor lorry along the No. 67 Village Public Road on Thursday, is calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
Priya Hunte of Lot 95 B, No. 67 Village, Corentyne, has been identified as the pedestrian who was killed in a fatal accident.
Police say the accident occurred at about 4:00 p.m. and involved motor lorries GAF 6180 and GAE 8823, as well as the female pedestrian.
Priya’s 79-year-old father, Pablo Hunte, relating what he was told, said his daughter was on her way to a religious function and had allegedly attempted to cross the road to go to a nearby shop when tragedy struck.
“Somebody seh like she bin go dah over of the road. Like she must be want to at the shop lil bit and buy something more. She cross the road and this thing come in one kind a way like them try to bypass one another or something, truck, and hit the girl,” he explained.
Priya sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to the No.75 Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The grieving father said he hopes the driver responsible will face the full force of the law for his actions, while expressing his profound grief over the tragic loss of his daughter.
