The government’s Dialysis Support Programme has been instrumental in improving the accessibility of dialysis treatment across Guyana.
By extending services to Regions 2, 4, 6, and 10, the program has reduced the need for patients to travel to Georgetown for treatment, making life-saving care more accessible to individuals in need.
Each dialysis patient is eligible for up to $600,000 per year in government funding, easing the financial burden of regular dialysis treatments.
Fernaz Haniff, one of the beneficiaries, shared her experience, explaining the challenges she faced before receiving the support and how the program has helped her continue her treatment while awaiting a possible transplant.
Edward Norton, another recipient, shared how he first discovered his need for dialysis after suffering from frequent illnesses while working in the bush.
After a delay in receiving treatment, he is now able to access dialysis regularly thanks to the program.
Launched in the 2023 budget with an allocation of $863 million, the Dialysis Support Programme continues to offer critical assistance to those in need.
Individuals requiring support can contact the Ministry’s Medical Treatment Department at 225-0113 for more information on how to access financial aid for dialysis treatment.
