In a significant development for Region Seven, Paruima Village has undergone a remarkable transformation with the completion of a $397 million airstrip upgrade and the installation of solar panels to provide electricity.
The once modest grassy patch has been revamped into a sturdy concrete airstrip, capable of enduring frequent usage and adverse weather conditions.
Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, hailed the project as another fulfillment of the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure across both coastal and hinterland regions.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony held on Wednesday, Minister Edghill emphasized the positive impact of the airstrip upgrade on accessibility, anticipating regular flights to facilitate the transportation of goods and services.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Edghill highlighted the distribution of solar panels to 260 households in Paruima Village, ensuring access to electricity and providing relief from the high cost of living.
The installation of solar panels not only promotes sustainable energy usage but also enhances the quality of life for residents, particularly in remote areas where access to electricity is limited.
With excitement brimming among the residents of Paruima Village, nestled in the Upper Mazaruni district of Region Seven, the completion of the new airstrip and provision of essential amenities mark a significant milestone in the community’s development journey.
The upgraded infrastructure is poised to improve connectivity, boost economic opportunities, and enhance the overall well-being of residents.
As the government continues its efforts to improve infrastructure and promote development across Guyana, projects like the Paruima Village airstrip upgrade underscore a commitment to inclusive growth and prosperity for all regions.
