The National Assembly on Monday approved Supplementary Financial Paper No. 1 of 2026, clearing an additional $54.9 billion to fund key Government development projects.

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, piloted the measure, which provides additional funding for housing, energy, infrastructure, agriculture and public utilities.

The largest allocation, $19.1 billion, was approved for the Gas-to-Energy Project under the Office of the Prime Minister to support the continued development of the initiative, which is expected to reduce electricity costs by up to 50 per cent and improve energy reliability.

The Ministry of Housing received $17.5 billion to advance the Government’s housing programme, including its goal of delivering 40,000 new homes during the current term.

The Ministry of Public Works was allocated $8.5 billion, including $6 billion for roads and drainage works and $2.5 billion for hinterland roads.

Another $8.3 billion was approved for the Ministry of Agriculture, including $3 billion for GuySuCo, $4.5 billion for the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA), and $807.5 million for the Guyana Rice Development Board.
The Ministry of Public Utilities and Aviation also received $600 million for the maintenance of coastal airstrips and $496.3 million for water supply interventions.

The Ministry of Finance said the supplementary funding will support ongoing investments in housing, agriculture, infrastructure, energy and other sectors aimed at improving the quality of life of Guyanese.
