Paperless Airport System Expected by Year-End

The Government of Guyana aims to fully digitize the operations at major airports, making them paperless by the end of this year.

Vice President and PPP General Secretary, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, revealed the comprehensive digitalization strategy during his weekly media conference, highlighting several major projects aimed at transforming the nation’s digital landscape.

Among the key initiatives is the introduction of an automated border management system that will streamline airport operations by enabling locals to swipe their IDs or passports for entry without requiring interaction with an immigration officer, provided they are not flagged.

This system will record all traveler information into a centralized government database, ensuring compliance with entry and stay regulations.

Additionally, Dr. Jagdeo spoke about the SAFE Guyana Project, which seeks to bolster economic security and reduce criminal activities.

Monitoring centers with high-resolution cameras have been set up in Regions 3, 4, and 6, leveraging predictive analytics to identify potential crime hotspots and deploy law enforcement effectively.

Other ongoing digital initiatives include the rollout of new biometric ID cards, the establishment of an electronic patient record system, the integration of blockchain technology for managing land and mining records, and the automation of the Ministry of Home Affairs to connect vital records and criminal information.

Throughout this transformation, strict privacy protections will be enforced to ensure the security of personal data.
