In 2024, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Regional Revolving Funds played a critical role in securing over $800 million worth of vaccines, medicines, and health technologies for countries across the Americas.

This initiative enables countries to purchase high-quality health supplies at competitive prices through a pooled procurement mechanism.

Among the significant achievements of the Revolving Funds in 2024 were the procurement of 224 million vaccine doses and 10 million diagnostic tests.

These tests included rapid diagnostics for diseases like HIV and malaria, aiding in quicker detection and treatment.

The funds also facilitated the purchase of medicines for a wide range of communicable diseases, as well as noncommunicable conditions such as Hepatitis, tuberculosis, and diabetes.

PAHO’s Revolving Funds, which have been in operation for more than 40 years, serve over 40 countries, ensuring they have access to essential health supplies.

In addition to facilitating the purchase of these products, the Revolving Funds support the local production of medical supplies, fostering regional healthcare self-sufficiency.

The efforts of the Revolving Funds are pivotal in the region’s ongoing efforts to eliminate vaccine-preventable diseases and improve overall health outcomes.

This collective approach continues to strengthen healthcare systems across the Americas.

The next edition of the NCN Health Report will be aired Thursday, with further details on the organization’s ongoing health initiatives.

The report is sponsored by Essential Care Pharmacy and GTM Insurance.
