A Multisectoral and Stakeholder Consultation aimed at developing a new PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) Subregional Cooperation Strategy was held recently at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown.
The consultation, which brought together health professionals and representatives from various Caribbean entities, addressed the region’s health challenges, including infectious and non-communicable diseases, and emphasized the importance of collaboration to tackle these issues.
Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony addressed the forum, underscoring the necessity of regional cooperation in the face of health challenges that no single country or organization could solve independently.
He noted the strategic collaboration between PAHO, CARICOM, and other regional organizations as a critical element in improving the health landscape of the Caribbean.
The consultation also featured remarks from Elizabeth Solomon, Assistant Secretary General of CARICOM, who highlighted the need for a comprehensive health strategy to guide health actions across the region.
She emphasized that the new strategy would align with the priorities identified by CARICOM and would continue to build on the successes of past initiatives to create a healthier, more resilient Caribbean.
The event was attended by representatives from PAHO/WHO and CARICOM member states, along with executives from various health-related organizations, marking a significant step toward strengthening regional health cooperation.
The new strategy is expected to provide a roadmap for addressing the region’s health priorities and improving the collective capacity to respond to emerging health challenges.
