The Protected Areas Commission (PAC) has embarked on a journey to restore and enhance the Zoological Park, unveiling the initiative themed “Wildlife Warriors: Unite for Conservation.”

Over the years, the Zoological Park has been a prominent attraction for families and tourists, offering a glimpse into Guyana’s rich biodiversity.

However, in recent times, the facility has faced significant deterioration.

To address this issue, the PAC, in collaboration with various stakeholders, initiated the rehabilitation process with a focus on cleaning and painting the facility.

Acting Commissioner of the Protected Areas Commission, Jason Fraser, expressed optimism about the restoration efforts, highlighting that key recommendations would be implemented to ensure a significant transformation of the Zoological Park by the year’s end.

Meanwhile, Robert Persaud, Chairman of the PAC Board of Directors, emphasized that the ongoing restoration work aims not only to enhance visitor experiences and educational opportunities but also to showcase Guyana’s commitment to managing and preserving its environment.

The launch event witnessed the participation of several stakeholders, including management and staff from PAC, representatives from the Ministry of Tourism Industry and Commerce, the private sector, youth environmental groups, British High Commissioner Jane Miller, and members of the public.

With collective efforts and a shared commitment to conservation, the restoration project for the Zoological Park signifies a crucial step towards safeguarding Guyana’s natural heritage and promoting environmental stewardship.
