The collaborative welding program between Nations School of Technology and the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) has garnered significant interest, with 650 individuals already registered and expectations of more than a thousand registrations by the closing date.

The program, which offers three levels of training, aims to equip participants with essential welding techniques and skills. Liam O’Toole, Chief Operating Officer of the School of the Nation Technology, highlighted the program’s objective of providing participants with the necessary skills to contribute to Guyana’s development.

He emphasized the life-changing opportunities that await successful participants, including the potential for further training opportunities abroad.

During a visit to the School of the Nations Open Day event, President Dr. Irfaan Ali expressed plans to expand the program nationwide.

He outlined intentions to regionalize the program after the initial batch, aiming to train at least 3000 Guyanese across the country in welding skills alone.

This expansion underscores the government’s commitment to providing accessible training opportunities to citizens across all regions.

The program has also forged partnerships with industry players such as TGY Industrial and Guyana Oil and Gas Support Services (GOGSSI) to offer the Level 1, 2, and 3 awards in Welding Skills. Interested individuals can register for training through Nations’ online platform.

The overwhelming response to the welding program signifies a promising step towards empowering Guyanese with valuable skills and opportunities for personal and national development.
