Over $4.1 Billion Allocated for 100 Road Contracts on East Bank Demerara

In a significant development for the region, over 100 road contracts valued at approximately $4.1 billion were officially signed for the East Bank of Demerara.

This collaborative initiative involved the Ministries of Public Works, Local Government, and Regional Development.

The impacted villages set to experience the benefits of improved roads include Eccles, Diamond, Grove, Covent Garden, and Friendship, among others.

Minister within the Public Works Ministry, Deodat Indar, stressed the paramount importance of constructing high-quality roads during the contract signing.

He urged the contractors to prioritize the longevity of the roads, surpassing their anticipated lifespan, for the collective benefit of the listed communities.

Meanwhile, Minister of Public Affairs Kwame McCoy called upon residents to actively monitor these projects, emphasizing that they represent a substantial government investment aimed at enhancing the quality of life for citizens.

Minister McCoy further encouraged contractors to hire individuals from the respective villages, fostering local community development.

Since 2020, the government has redoubled its efforts to enhance the nation’s public infrastructure by initiating the construction and rehabilitation of several vital road networks.

This comprehensive endeavor directly benefits individuals and the broader business community.
