The Ministry of Education has commenced its annual disbursement of the ‘Because We Care’ cash grant, with over 37,000 children in Georgetown set to benefit from this initiative.
Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh oversaw the distribution process at Queens College, emphasizing its significance in fulfilling the government’s commitment to supporting education.
This year’s allocation totals $9.2 billion, benefiting more than 205,000 students across public and private schools nationwide.
Minister Singh highlighted that the cash grant program has incrementally increased over the years, with a commitment to reach $50,000 per child by 2025, underscoring the government’s dedication to investing in education.
Parents expressed gratitude for the financial relief provided by the grant, emphasizing its crucial role in purchasing school supplies and supporting their children’s educational needs.
Andre Plant, a parent from Tuschen, expressed happiness and appreciation towards the Ministry of Education and the government for implementing the cash grant.
Similarly, Savita Mohamed from Stewartville praised the initiative, noting its positive impact on many families.
Sunil Bianchini from Kitty Georgetown echoed these sentiments, thanking the government and the Ministry of Education for their support.
Minister Singh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing education accessibility and quality, stating that the $9.2 billion allocation for 2024 reflects a significant investment in the future of Guyana’s youth.
The distribution of the cash grant will continue throughout the upcoming week, ensuring that eligible families receive the necessary financial support to prepare their children for the academic year ahead.
