In a significant move to enhance infrastructure in Region Ten, over 300 small contractors have signed contracts for the construction of 165 roads in the region.
The total value of the contracts amounts to $7 billion.
The signing ceremony took place this morning on the lawns of the Watooka Guest House.
The event was attended by Regional Executive Officer, Dwight John, who highlighted that the government’s efforts are aimed at ensuring the region is not left behind in national development.
Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, also participated in the signing ceremony. He provided an update on ongoing projects, noting that 26 major road construction projects are nearing completion.
He further mentioned that 165 more roads would be developed in the region, with the work distributed among various small contractors.
Minister Edghill explained that the locations of the roads allow for the engagement of multiple contractors in the process, contributing to broader economic inclusion.
This phase of the project sees 325 contractors being assigned contracts, with the possibility of more being engaged as the work progresses.
Contractors present at the event expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to participate in such large-scale development efforts.
The government’s commitment to supporting small contractors in the region is seen as a step toward empowering local businesses and fostering further growth in the construction sector.
This project marks a continued effort by the government to improve regional infrastructure and provide local contractors with opportunities to contribute to the nation’s development.
