More than 275 million dollars in grants were distributed to small business owners across Region Six, benefiting 2,753 recipients from New Amsterdam, Albion, and surrounding areas.

This annual initiative, held on the lawns of State House in New Amsterdam, aims to support the startup and expansion of small businesses.

Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo emphasized that the initiative is designed to be inclusive, benefiting all citizens regardless of race or religion.

He highlighted that while previous administrations distributed funds through officials, the PPP/C administration ensures direct distribution to beneficiaries.

Dr. Jagdeo shared that the grants can make a substantial difference for small entrepreneurs, referencing individuals who used the funds to expand businesses as small as water vending.

He also reiterated that the program will continue in future years as part of the government’s commitment to supporting livelihoods and economic development.

This cash grant program aligns with the PPP/C’s election promises and is part of broader efforts to improve both infrastructure and economic opportunities across Guyana.
