The registration process for the $100,000 one-off cash grant is well underway, with over 221,000 individuals already registered and set to benefit soon, according to Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, the General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and Vice-President of Guyana.

In an update shared during his weekly press conference, Dr. Jagdeo outlined the progress of the cash grant distribution across several regions.

To date, more than 16,000 people have registered in Region 1, with distribution currently ongoing.

In Region 7, approximately 12,000 people have registered, and distribution is expected to commence soon.

The distribution began on December 3 in Region 9, followed by Region 8 on December 16.

Dr. Jagdeo also noted that the registration process is still ongoing in other regions, and the cash grant distribution will continue as verification and processing are completed.

The government has made significant progress in registering pensioners, with over 44,000 pensioners registered so far.

Of these, 27,000 checks have been printed, while the remaining registrations are being verified.

Dr. Jagdeo also addressed the financial aspect of the initiative, stating that the government has already requested $30.5 billion for the first stage of cash distribution.

The remaining funds will be requested during the upcoming fiscal year to complete the process.

As the registration and distribution continue, the government is working to ensure that all eligible individuals, including those in the remaining five regions, will receive their cash grants.
