Over 200 Students Graduate from CVQ and SCCP Programs in Guyana

In a significant milestone for technical vocational education, over 200 students have successfully graduated from the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) and Secondary Competence Certificate Programme (SCCP) in Guyana.

This marks the inaugural batch of graduates from the CVQ program, reflecting Guyana’s commitment to skills development and technical vocational education and training (TVET) as the nation continues to expand its industries.

The graduating students specialized in various areas, including agriculture science, furniture making, electrical installation, and catering.

This diversification reflects the strategic approach Guyana is taking to align its workforce with the growing demands of different sectors.

Assistant Chief Education Officer, Marcia Paddy-Andrews, emphasized the crucial role of TVET in realizing Guyana’s full economic growth.

She highlighted that with expanding industries, there is a greater need for skilled professionals in various technical fields, making TVET an essential component of the education system.

Deputy Chief Education Officer Technical, Ritesh Tularam, outlined the ministry’s ambitious agenda, aiming to ensure that by 2025, every student leaving the school system will possess dual qualifications.

This approach involves integrating TVET into the mainstream curriculum, offering students a broader skill set that aligns with both academic and technical competencies.

The implementation of Technical Vocational Education and Training is currently underway for Grades 9 and 10 students in multiple schools across the country.

The government’s goal is to extend this program to every school in Guyana by 2025, providing students with a comprehensive and versatile education that prepares them for diverse career paths.

As Guyana focuses on building a skilled and adaptable workforce, the graduation of over 200 students from the CVQ and SCCP programs underscores the nation’s commitment to fostering a dynamic and competitive labor market.
