In a significant milestone, over 200 students have graduated from the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) and Secondary Competence Certificate Programme (SCCP).
This marks the first batch of students to complete the CVQ programme in Guyana.
The graduation ceremony celebrated the achievements of students who completed courses in various areas, including agriculture science, furniture making, electrical installation, and catering.
Recognizing the evolving landscape of industries in Guyana, there is an increased emphasis on skills development through Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Assistant Chief Education Officer, Marcia Paddy-Andrews, emphasized the importance of TVET for the full economic growth of Guyana.
She highlighted that responding to the growing demands of industries requires a skilled workforce.
Deputy Chief Education Officer Technical, Ritesh Tularam, outlined the Ministry’s agenda to ensure that, by 2025, every student leaving the school system possesses dual qualifications.
This dual qualification involves completing the regular Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) curriculum along with a TVET program.
The Technical Vocational Education and Training is currently offered to Grades 9 and 10 students in several schools across the country.
The goal is to implement TVET in every school by 2025, aligning with the broader vision for skills development and education in Guyana.
