The Ministry of Labour has initiated a formal investigation into the tragic accident resulting in the death of sixty-six-year-old Lennox McPherson, an employee of Guyana Shield Resources Inc. in Linden.

The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department of the Ministry of Labour received the report of the accident on Sunday, February 4.

Initial reports indicate that Lennox McPherson, a resident of Cinderella City in Amelia’s Ward, lost his life in the accident.

McPherson, who worked as an excavator operator, was fatally pinned by a Doosan Excavator Bucket against the track of an excavator just outside a sandpit in Dora on the East Bank of Demerara.

NCN had the opportunity to speak with Keon McPherson, the son of the deceased, who shared details about the incident.

According to Keon McPherson, there was a discussion about the work before the accident occurred, and his father was unable to call for help during the incident.

Lennox McPherson was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex after the incident, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

The family of the deceased is urging the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Keon McPherson emphasized that the family seeks justice for their loved one.

Lennox McPherson, who had worked as a dozer operator for over 20 years, leaves behind his wife and six children.

He had been employed with Guyana Shields for just over a year.

The investigation into this tragic accident underscores the importance of ensuring occupational safety and health measures in the workplace.
