Despite persistent calls from the APNU+AFC for the implementation of a biometric voting system to address concerns of a “bloated voters’ list,” the opposition failed to raise any objections during the recent Claims and Objections exercise conducted by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

This was highlighted by Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, who referenced a GECOM report stating that over 4,000 transactions were processed during the review period.

However, not a single claim or objection was filed by the opposition.

Nandlall noted that if the opposition had any evidence of voter fraud, they could have used the exercise to challenge registrations.

He emphasized that their failure to provide any proof undermines the credibility of their allegations regarding the integrity of the Official List of Electors (OLE) and the National Register of Registrants (NRR).

The Attorney General further stated that the opposition’s demands for fresh registration and biometric voting serve as a diversionary tactic ahead of the upcoming elections.

He maintained that the current system remains effective and urged citizens to recognize the opposition’s claims as politically motivated rather than based on factual concerns.
