In a notable absence, opposition councilors failed to attend a scheduled statutory meeting of the Mayor and Town Council (LM&TC) of Linden, causing its cancellation, according to Town Clerk Lennox Gasper.
Gasper expressed frustration, accusing the city councilors of playing politics and emphasizing that their primary responsibility is to the people of Linden.
Despite the established law designating the first Wednesday of each month for the council’s statutory meeting, Gasper stressed the importance of ensuring the town’s business does not come to a standstill.
The town clerk highlighted pending building plans awaiting approval, seeking advice from the commission and asserting his right to approve those plans.
While the reason for the opposition councilors’ absence remains unclear, Mayor Sharma Solomon, in November, called for Gasper’s appointment as town clerk to be rescinded, considering it a unilateral decision.
Only People’s Progressive Party councillors were present for the statutory meeting.
Councilor Ryan Richards expressed disappointment, emphasizing the need for the town’s business to continue and pointing out the lack of meetings in various committees.
Councilor Sancha Halley criticized the absence, deeming it a clear indication of a lack of objective and responsible leadership.
She stressed the need for unity during a time when national solidarity is crucial, deeming the situation counterproductive to the people of Linden.
It remains uncertain whether the statutory meeting will be rescheduled for a later date.
