Twenty-five teams are gearing up for the third edition of the One Guyana “King and Queen of the Sand” Linden Town Week football competition, with action set to begin this Saturday.
Coordinator Stanley Lancaster reveals that the tournament will feature 20 male teams and 5 female teams, all vying for over two million dollars in cash and prizes.
The winning male team will take home one million dollars, while the runners-up will receive five hundred thousand dollars.
For the female teams, the champions will be awarded four hundred thousand dollars, with two hundred thousand dollars for second place.
Due to the congestion of dates with other sports activities planned during Linden Town Week, the tournament will follow a straight knockout format.
The opening day on Saturday will witness two female and four male games, with matchups including Rockstone vs. Hururu and Tiger Bay vs. Aroima in the male category, and Rockstone vs. Hururu in the female category.
President Dr. Irfaan Ali initiated the One Guyana Beach Football tournament last year in response to calls by youths to promote football in the region.
With excitement building, the competition promises thrilling matches and fierce competition as teams battle it out for the prestigious title of King and Queen of the Sand.
