The One Guyana Christmas Village on Main Street has officially opened, ushering in the festive season with a celebration of Guyanese culture, unity, and prosperity.
Over 80 small and medium-sized businesses are participating in this year’s event, offering a variety of local produce, products, and cultural goods.
President Irfaan Ali, speaking at the opening ceremony, highlighted the importance of celebrating Guyana’s rich cultural diversity and the nation’s bright future.
He emphasized that the Christmas Village has become an integral part of the Guyanese holiday tradition, symbolizing unity, love, peace, and cultural pride.
“This is now a staple of the Guyanese Christmas experience, transforming Main Street into a national street where we celebrate our food, culture, and identity,” said President Ali.
This year, the Christmas Village has expanded to include a supermarket component, offering visitors a wider selection of local products.
The event is part of a month-long celebration, where the government encourages citizens to support local businesses and showcase Guyana’s culinary and artistic talent.
The Christmas Village is expected to draw thousands of visitors during the festive season, with new airline seats added to accommodate the influx.
The celebration will culminate on December 31 with a grand event for members of the discipline services.
