The Guyana Football Federation has officially announced Omar Khan as the new Head Coach of the Guyana Women’s National Football Team. Khan, a qualified UEFA –A License coach, brings a wealth of experience to the position, having previously coached at the club level in the Netherlands.
Born in Guyana and with 49 years of coaching expertise, Khan’s last assignment was with RKSV Spartaan Football Club. Notably, he also holds qualifications as a Sports/Performance Psychologist. Khan’s coaching prowess has impacted players who have gone on to represent prestigious clubs such as Paris Saint Germain, Liverpool, New Castle United, FC Barcelona, and Manchester United, among others.
Set to arrive in Guyana imminently, Khan is eager to assume his role as the Lady Jags’ lead tactician, particularly as they gear up for the upcoming Road to CONCACAF W Gold Cup 2023. He expressed excitement about returning to his roots and building upon the positive momentum of the staff and players.
Wayne Forde, President of the Guyana Football Federation, expressed his satisfaction in welcoming Coach Khan, emphasizing the tremendous experience he brings to the role. This appointment follows the dismissal of former head coach Dr. Ivan Joseph last year after his four-year tenure.
The Lady Jaguars find themselves in Group B of League B, alongside El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Martinique. In 2022, Guyana narrowly missed out on advancing to the Concacaf W Championship, finishing second in Group F with eight points, trailing behind Trinidad and Tobago.
