Officer David Prince, second-in-command of the CID Narcotics Branch of the Guyana Police Force, has been named the 2024 Best Cop, an honor he humbly accepts on behalf of his team.
Out of more than 5,000 officers, Prince’s dedication to his work and collaboration with his team have earned him this prestigious recognition.
Prince is deeply grateful for the support and guidance he’s received from his superiors, particularly Mr. Wendell Blanhum, his immediate supervisor, and the leadership team of the Guyana Police Force, including the Commissioner of Police.
As part of his role, Officer Prince is responsible for planning and directing raids, drug eradication efforts, and other critical operations.
In 2024, he and his team successfully confiscated over 500 pounds of cannabis, destroyed 3,600 pounds of marijuana valued at $1.7 billion, and seized 1,700 rounds of ammunition and eight firearms.
However, his journey has not been without challenges.
The unpredictable nature of the job, long working hours, and time away from family can be difficult.
Prince views these obstacles as opportunities for growth, often encouraging his colleagues to spend time with their families when they’re not in operation mode.
Alongside his career, Prince has also focused on his personal growth.
He holds a bachelor’s in environmental studies and a master’s in strategic development studies from the University of Guyana.
He hopes to integrate his academic expertise into his future operations and continue developing professionally and academically.
Looking forward, Officer Prince encourages others to consider joining the police force, highlighting the potential for both personal and professional success.
He is committed to serving the citizens of Guyana with excellence and is determined to continue going the extra mile in his service to the Guyana Police Force.
