Occupational Safety and Health Certification Awarded to Global EDGE Guyana

Global EDGE Guyana and nearly 20 of its employees have received Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) certification from the Ministry of Labour.

This recruitment firm specializes in technical placements within the Energy, Infrastructure, Automotive, and IT sectors.

Labour Minister Joseph Hamilton commended the growing number of companies seeking OSH certification.

He emphasized that as the country undergoes infrastructural transformation, occupational safety and health should not be overlooked.

Minister Hamilton stressed that safety and health in Guyana is not solely an issue between employees and employers, but a national and cultural concern.

He called for a collective attitude shift towards protecting oneself, families, colleagues, and the broader community.

He urged the certified individuals to apply their newfound knowledge within their organizations and share it with others.

While the oil and gas industry’s emergence has prompted many businesses to develop OSH regulations, there is still progress to be made, noted Minister Hamilton.

Global E.D.G.E. Country Manager, Abdool Azis, praised the training’s positive impact on the business sector and commended the government’s commitment to citizen development through OSH initiatives.

Minister Hamilton highlighted that increased OSH awareness has led to a reduction in workplace injuries and fatalities, with fatalities decreasing from 32 in 2020 to 21 in 2022.
