In a spirited debate tackling the theme “Guyana’s education system produces quality output,” the Oasis of Optimism Youth Group emerged victorious over the Berbice Youths in Development Group in the ongoing Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition.
The debate was characterized by passionate arguments from both sides.
Representing the Oasis of Optimism Youth Group, Eion Adams eloquently advocated for the quality of Guyana’s education system.
He highlighted the inclusive nature of the curriculum, emphasizing its ability to cater to students of diverse abilities and competencies.
Adams cited examples of successful vocational and technical education programs, underscoring the system’s capacity to produce skilled graduates.
However, Joel Valentine from the opposing Berbice Youths in Development Group argued that Guyana’s education system has failed to evolve with the changing times.
He contended that the curriculum is outdated and ill-equipped to prepare students for future opportunities.
Valentine emphasized the need for educational reforms to align with the demands of the modern world.
Ultimately, the Oasis of Optimism Youth Group secured victory with 173 points, advancing to the next round of the competition.
Eion Adams was also recognized as the Best Debater for his compelling arguments and eloquence.
