NSC Supports Malachi Austin Ahead of Freshman Year at LSU

December 31, 2024

Guyana’s leading quarter-miler, Malachi Austin, has received crucial support from the National Sports Commission (NSC) as he prepares for his freshman year at Louisiana State University (LSU).

Austin recently earned a full athletic scholarship to LSU, one of the premier collegiate track and field programs in the United States.

The NSC responded promptly to Austin’s request for assistance, providing the necessary resources to help him with his transition.

Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, encouraged Austin to remain focused on both his athletic and academic goals, reminding him of the importance of commitment, as several athletes in the past have not followed through after receiving scholarships.

Austin, 17, expressed his gratitude to the NSC for their swift support.

The young athlete has already made a name for himself on the international stage, securing a silver medal in the 400m at the Youth Commonwealth Games and winning the U20 400m title at the 2024 CARIFTA Games.

Considered one of the world’s top emerging 400-meter runners, Austin’s scholarship to LSU marks a significant milestone in his athletic career.

At LSU, he will have the opportunity to enhance his skills and compete against some of the best collegiate athletes globally.
