More than fifty residents from North Blueberry Hill in Linden are taking a significant step towards achieving home ownership, as they received their agreements of sale during an outreach led by Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader housing program aimed at regularizing squatting areas across the country.
For years, residents of North Blueberry Hill have been occupying lands without proper ownership documents, leading to uncertainty and insecurity.
Minister Susan Rodrigues highlighted the importance of home ownership and the financial freedom it provides to individuals and families and expressed the government’s commitment to empowering citizens through property ownership and advancing developments in the housing sector.
CEO of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), Sherwyn Greaves, confirmed that the officers will return within four to six weeks to hand over the land transport documents to the residents, formalizing their ownership.
During the outreach, forty-eight residents also received the government’s steel and cement subsidy, a valuable support for low-income families aspiring to build their homes. The subsidy aims to make the dream of owning a house more accessible and affordable for citizens.
The recipients expressed their gratitude and excitement for this significant milestone.
Many had been waiting for years to secure their land and were relieved to finally have the opportunity to start building their homes.
Additionally, another 50 individuals who were allotted lands in Phase Four Amelia’s Ward are now one step closer to realizing their dreams of home ownership.
They were shown their lots during a land identification exercise, furthering the government’s commitment to expanding access to affordable housing for all Guyanese.
