Following a joint cleanup effort over the weekend in Linden’s central business district, involving the Ministry of Public Works, National Drainage and Irrigation Authority, and M&TC, no incidents of flooding have been reported in previously affected areas.
This successful initiative has been praised by Linden’s Town Clerk, Lennox Gasper.
Town Clerk Gasper confirmed that since the cleaning exercise, there have been no instances of flooding in the areas that were previously prone to such issues.
He highlighted the intensity of the cleanup efforts and noted that water flow in the drains has significantly improved.
However, Gasper also pointed out that vending activities near the drains have exacerbated flooding problems in the past.
He emphasized the need for continued efforts to prevent vendors from obstructing drainage channels, which contribute to water accumulation during heavy rainfall.
To address this issue, the M&TC administration is actively seeking alternative locations for vendors who were previously conducting business over drainage structures.
Ongoing assessments are being conducted to ensure that all drainage channels in Central Mackenzie remain clear and functional.
Recent heavy rainfall had inundated the central business district, forcing some businesses to temporarily cease operations due to waterlogging.
The cleanup initiative and ongoing maintenance efforts aim to mitigate such disruptions in the future and ensure the smooth functioning of drainage systems in the area.
