The Department of Education in Region 10 hosted its regional award ceremony at Shanghai’s residence in Amelia’s Ward, Linden, on Wednesday.
The event aimed to recognize and celebrate the academic achievements of students from both primary and secondary schools in Region 10 for the academic year 2022 – 2023.
The ceremony acknowledged students for their outstanding performance in the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA), Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC), and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE).
Regional Education Officer, Ms. Nicola Matthews, highlighted the region’s consistent improvement in NGSA over the last three years, making it the outstanding region in the country.
For CSEC in 2023, the region demonstrated a one percent increase in grades 1 to 3, encompassing five or more subjects, including Mathematics and English, compared to the previous years.
Deputy Regional Executive Officer, Mr. Seechand, attributed the transformation in the education system to the increased budgetary allocation for the region.
The ceremony awarded twenty-one students for their performance in NGSA and recognized twelve students for their achievements in CSEC and CAPE.
Additionally, the contributions of fourteen retired teachers and thirty-eight teachers with 28-29 years of service were acknowledged.
Eight schools were also honored for producing students who secured places at Queen’s College.
