New Textbook Series Launched by Ministry of Education

By Saskia Warrick

The Ministry of Education has launched two new series of textbooks in Social Studies and Mathematics for primary school learners, aiming to provide every child with the necessary resources for their education.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to modernize the education sector and ensure access to world-class education.

The “Social Studies Guyanese in the World” series, released for Grades 1-4, and the “Mathematics Made Easy” series, catering to Grades 1-3, are crafted under the renewed curriculum.

These textbooks not only address global educational needs but also incorporate local contexts to enhance their effectiveness.

Stembiso Grant, ACEO Literacy, highlighted that while the content considers global perspectives, it remains connected to the Guyanese context, making it more relevant for learners.

Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, emphasized the government’s heavy investments in education and stressed the importance of effective management in schools to ensure the delivery of high-quality education.

The new textbooks feature structured lessons with accompanying worksheets, allowing learners to practice exercises after each lesson.

Additionally, the Ministry of Education plans to complete and launch the remaining editions for Mathematics, Social Studies, and the Science series in May, further enriching the education resources available to primary school students.

This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the quality of education in Guyana and empowering primary school learners with the necessary tools for academic success.
