The Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) has introduced new technologies and conducted additional capacity-building training as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of teacher education in Guyana.
This was highlighted in the latest episode of “Education Spotlight.”
With CPCE’s hybrid approach to ensure all teachers are either trained or currently in training, the college has successfully completed the second phase of capacity-building training in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning.
This initiative exposed lecturers to the development of online courses, assessments, and administrative management, among other key areas, to support the digitalization of teacher training.
CPCE’s Vice Principal and Registrar, Kevuan Sears, noted that while the transition to digital platforms is underway, the college is aware of the challenges some educators face in adapting to new technologies.
To address these issues, CPCE has implemented support systems to assist teachers in navigating this shift.
Additionally, the college is moving from manual records management to a comprehensive school management system.
This new system aims to optimize student learning and streamline all school operations online, enhancing the overall efficiency of educational delivery.
Currently, CPCE operates 20 active centers across all regions of Guyana, dedicated to training the nation’s educators.
The college remains committed to achieving its goal of having 100% of the nation’s teachers fully trained by 2025.
