New Teacher Appraisal System to Be Launched in September

By Saskia Warrick

The Ministry of Education is set to introduce a new appraisal system for teachers starting in September, as announced by Chief Education Officer Saddam Hussain.

This initiative aims to enhance student pass rates, particularly at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) level, by ensuring that educators are effectively supported and evaluated.

The new system will assess teachers’ performance to ensure they possess the necessary skills and resources to deliver quality education.

Hussain stated that this approach is part of broader efforts to elevate educational standards across schools nationwide.

In preparation for the rollout, head teachers have already received training on how to utilize the new appraisal system effectively.

The Ministry of Education is committed to improving educational outcomes through these enhanced measures.

Additionally, Education Minister Priya Manickchand highlighted that monitors will be deployed to schools with noted performance issues.

Their role will include ensuring that curricula are completed, students grasp the necessary concepts, and School-Based Assessments (SBAs) are completed on schedule.
