The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security has introduced a new initiative called “The Golden Generation” programme, designed to provide essential services and foster inclusivity for senior citizens across Guyana.
The programme will be rolled out nationwide starting in the New Year, with sessions held twice weekly.
The Ministry plans to expand its offerings based on participant engagement, aiming to create a space for wellness, social interaction, and empowerment among the elderly population.
Oversight Minister Dr. Vindhya Persaud stated that the initiative has been in development for some time, with the goal of offering stimulating activities to keep seniors engaged both mentally and physically.
Activities will include physical wellness sessions, cognitive exercises, social events, peer support groups, technology literacy workshops, and nutritional talks.
Jashudra Seeram, Head of the Difficult Circumstance Unit, emphasized the program’s focus on fostering social connections through organized activities like movie nights, workshops, and games.
She highlighted the initiative’s intent to create vibrant communities where seniors can interact, share experiences, and build lasting friendships.
The Golden Generation programme reflects the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens, ensuring they receive care and opportunities to remain active and socially connected.
