A new outdoor gym, open to the public free of charge, has been inaugurated at the National Park in Georgetown.

Commissioned on Thursday, the facility was unveiled by First Lady Arya Ali, in collaboration with the Protected Areas Commission and sponsored by CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited.

This outdoor gym is the first of two planned for the National Park, marking a significant effort to enhance public spaces.

Commissioner of the Protected Areas Commission, Jason Fraser, emphasized that each gym will feature over 20 exercise equipment units, each equipped with QR codes providing guidance on their usage.

Fraser highlighted the importance of these gyms in promoting health, wellness, and community bonding.

Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud, who chairs the PAC, noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of prioritizing citizens’ health and improving green spaces nationwide.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to developing a protected area system that balances preservation, development, and sustainable livelihoods.

Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan commended CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited for sponsoring the facility and pledged ongoing support to encourage Chinese companies to contribute where needed.

The opening of this outdoor gym represents a positive step towards promoting healthy lifestyles and fostering community engagement within Georgetown’s National Park.
