The eleventh council of the newly elected Linden Mayor and Town Council convened for its first statutory meeting since taking office in August. Chaired by Mayor Sharma Solomon, the meeting took place in the council’s conference room.

During the meeting, Solomon provided updates on various consultations conducted since assuming office. Notably, the council is in talks with the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) for support in executing major development initiatives, including beautification and market enhancement projects.

Eight standing committees have been established to oversee various aspects of the town’s affairs, ranging from environmental and health matters to finance and parks. Proposed initiatives cover waste disposal, cashless transactions, penalties for littering, and a Linden beautification program. Deputy Mayor Dominique Blair has suggested implementing a structured environmental levy approach to boost revenue, alongside measures like no-dumping signs and penalties for offenders. The council also discussed nighttime community lighting assessments and relocating the Linden toll booth.
