New Leadership Appointed to the Guyana Police Force

A substantive Commissioner of Police and five Deputy Commissioners were sworn in to lead the Guyana Police Force today, marking a significant step in the continued development of the country’s law enforcement.

Clifton Hicken was officially sworn in as the Commissioner of Police, taking the lead role in overseeing the operations of the force.

He will be supported by four Deputy Commissioners: Ravindradat Boodram, Wendel Blanhum, Errol Watts, and Fizul Karimbaksh.

Simon McBean will also be appointed as a Deputy Commissioner at a later date.

The swearing-in ceremony was administered by President Dr. Irfaan Ali, who met with the new leadership team both individually and collectively prior to the ceremony.

During the meeting, the President outlined the expectations for the leadership in alignment with the Constitution of Guyana and the public’s expectations for the nation’s security.

In his address, President Ali emphasized the importance of building public trust and maintaining security across the nation.

He also expressed confidence in the leadership team’s ability to meet these goals while urging them to work cohesively and support one another in their duties.

The President further noted that the appointments were made in full compliance with the constitutional requirements, which included necessary consultations.

He highlighted that the new leadership structure would bring stability to the force, foster morale among ranks, and strengthen relationships within the police force, all of which are critical for its success moving forward.
