The construction of a new Kwakwani Waterfront Nursery School is progressing, with a budget of 71 million dollars funded by the Caribbean Development Bank through the Ministry of Education.
The new facility aims to improve the learning environment for the current 47 students and provide space for future enrollment.
Regional Executive Officer Dwight John explained that the old school was prone to flooding during heavy rain and rising river levels, which highlighted the need for relocation.
As a result, the Neighbourhood Democratic Council identified a new lot on higher ground for the construction of the modern, spacious school.
The new facility will feature adequate furniture, amenities, and a design that accommodates both current and future students.
It will also include a walkway for persons with disabilities, a fenced perimeter, and ample space to allow for growth in student numbers over the coming years.
John emphasized that the project is expected to be completed in time for the upcoming school term, ensuring a safer and more comfortable learning environment for both students and teachers.
