The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), recently conducted a comprehensive workshop aimed at training health workers on a newly introduced influenza information management system.

This initiative is viewed as a major advancement in enhancing the quality of healthcare services in Guyana.

The three-day workshop was designed to equip healthcare professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively utilize the new system.

The system is intended to collect detailed information across the country, providing valuable data that will improve the delivery of health services.

Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony emphasized the importance of this system, noting that it not only gathers data but also helps in preparing for and responding to potential health crises, including future pandemics.

The system’s capability to distinguish between flu and other illnesses is expected to significantly enhance patient care and response.

PAHO’s representative to Guyana, Daniel Albrecht, expressed satisfaction with the progress made in implementing the system, highlighting its positive reception and the advancements it represents for the Caribbean region.

The new flu information management system is anticipated to play a crucial role in better managing public health and improving response strategies for influenza and other related health issues.
