The hospitality sector in Guyana is set for a significant boost with the upcoming opening of the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, located near the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) at Timehri.
Slated for completion by early 2025, the 20-million-dollar project is expected to meet growing demand for accommodations in the area.
President Dr. Irfaan Ali, along with Prime Minister Brigadier Mark Phillips, toured the construction site upon the President’s return from the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa.
The development, which broke ground in 2021, will feature 140 rooms and is being built on a 2.5-acre site leased from the government.
Co-owner of Cardinal Investments Inc., Roy Bassoo, assured that inspections of electrical systems and other facilities are underway as the construction progresses.
Over 100 Guyanese are currently employed on the project, with plans to train more than 200 individuals in hospitality and employ them upon the hotel’s opening.
This new facility will not only cater to the accommodation needs of travelers and airline staff but will also provide a venue for meetings and conferences, strengthening the country’s tourism and business infrastructure.
